The first BBS
At 15, Rickard starts his first BBS in Varberg. People dial in to him, and that is the beginning of everything.
In 1989 I started my first BBS, and that was really when my fascination with communicating over the net began … there I sat in Varberg and could reach people from all over the world.
- BBS = dial-up electronic bulletin board, a bit like teletext: ”no graphics and only 16 colours”.
- The audience: computer nerds talking ”programming and Star Trek”.
- The dream: to bring in ”the non-nerdy lads, and above all the girls”.
- The logic behind running your own BBS: the callers were the ones who paid for the call (Framtidslöftet p. 17).
