Stajl Plejs Community launches
Rickard, 22, starts Stajl Plejs Community in Varberg: a web chat with profiles. The world's first social medium on the web.
So you could say I moved my BBS to the internet. It wasn't quite that simple, of course … I had to start from scratch with HTML and databases. My first social medium on the web.
- A non-profit hobby project in the evenings: ”I had no commercial ideas whatsoever”.
- The technology: JavaChat/IRC, Windows NT; the domain later became stajl.com.
- The name from 1996 to 1999: Stajl Plejs Community (with a space). Not a BBS.
- The server was at IntraSystems in the Yellow Villa (Gula villan); Rickard lived on Strandgatan.
- The oldest surviving member account dates from 5 November 1996; 15,589 accounts were registered up to January 1999 (stajlusers.xls).
- The krypin was the very first feature after the IRC chat.
