Det Stora Internetpriset 2001 (the Great Internet Prize)
BitoS names LunarWorks the winner: LunarStorm has “brought the Internet into teenagers’ bedrooms”. The prize, an obelisk of melted-down monitor glass, is presented on 4 June.
The nominees were the Home PC reform, which I thought should have won … But also Lunarstorm, apparently. It has helped young girls get over all these thresholds.
- Nominated on 24 April: LunarWorks, “the Pioneers” (Swipnet/KTH) and the Home PC reform (a Swedish tax break for home computers).
- Presented on 4 June 2002 at O-baren, Sturehof, by Erik Hörnfeldt and Monique Wadsted (BitoS). The staff celebrated in Varberg.
- Rickard in 2018: the jury felt that LunarStorm had done more for young girls’ digital maturity than the Home PC reform.
- Hallands Nyheter (HN), the local paper in Varberg’s region, 2016: “we won because Lunarstorm had forced Sweden’s women to get over a number of thresholds and learn about IT.”
