Targeted advertising ten years before Facebook
Advertisers can choose age, gender, town and interests and get exactly the right reach. A standard product at LunarStorm in 2001.
What you can do on Facebook today, pick out a very specific target group … That was a standard product for us in 2001.
- Arvika 2024: ”18 to 21-year-old girls in Skåne who have an interest in horse riding.”
- The problem: nobody wanted to advertise on the internet after the dotcom crash.
- Rickard 2024 calls it ”sniper marketing”: advertisers could choose ”17 to 21-year-old girls in Skåne with an interest in equestrian sports”.
- In August 2001 LunarStorm used the technique itself for its job advert, aimed at LunarStorm members aged 20 to 30 in Stockholm and Halland counties.
